Hi and welcome to this Video Production News Case Update:.

The tragic case surrounding the death of 15-year-old Elianne Andam has taken another step forward as the alleged killer, now identified as Hassan Sentamu, will face trial for murder at the Old Bailey on November 25. Sentamu, born on September 6, 2006, was arrested just 75 minutes after the attack at a tram stop in New Addington, Croydon. The attack took place on the morning of September 27, 2023, as Elianne, a student at Old Palace of John Whitgift School, was making her way to school. She was fatally stabbed near the Whitgift Centre at around 8:30 a.m. and pronounced dead less than an hour later.
This case has captured national attention, with widespread outpourings of grief and solidarity, including a candlelit vigil attended by over 3,000 people, among them Croydon native and grime artist Stormzy. Elianne’s mother, Dorcas Andam, spoke movingly of her daughter, describing her as a “smart, charismatic” teenager who “loved living life to the fullest.” The loss of such a bright and promising young life sent shockwaves through the local community and beyond.
Sentamu, who was 17 at the time of the killing, could not be named earlier due to legal restrictions on identifying minors involved in criminal proceedings. However, after his 18th birthday on September 6, 2024, these restrictions were lifted, allowing for his name to be publicly released. He faces charges of murder and possession of a blade in a public place. Though Sentamu has admitted to killing Elianne by pleading guilty to manslaughter, he has denied the charge of murder, a plea that was not accepted by the prosecution.
The circumstances surrounding Elianne’s death are chilling. She had met up with friends just before the attack, when Sentamu, allegedly masked and wearing gloves, reportedly produced a large knife from his waistband and stabbed her repeatedly. Despite the efforts of those nearby to provide first aid, Elianne could not be saved. The following day, police discovered a knife on Cedar Road, around half a mile from the scene of the stabbing.
In court, prosecutor Alison Morgan KC described the attack as a “brutal” and deliberate act. The trial, set to begin in late November, will determine whether Sentamu’s actions constituted murder, despite his admission to manslaughter. The outcome will be closely followed, as the community, Elianne's family, and the wider public seek justice for this horrific crime.
Elianne's death has left a deep scar on her school, which expressed their devastation at losing such a beloved pupil. Her family, equally shattered, issued a statement shortly after her death: "We as a family are struggling to comprehend this painful tragedy that has happened to our beautiful daughter and beloved sister Elianne. Our hearts are broken." They added that Elianne had a bright future ahead of her and dreamed of becoming a lawyer.
As the trial date nears, the community continues to grieve, yet remains hopeful that justice will be served for Elianne and her family.
Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
