In a culmination of proceedings at Wolverhampton Crown Court on February 6th, Dalvir Singh, a 48-year-old resident of West Bromwich, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for charges of rape and sexual abuse. The conviction comes as a result of a dilligently carried out investigation conducted by detectives from the Public Protection Unit, following a harrowing disclosure by a young woman at her local GP surgery.

Singh's arrest swiftly followed the victim's courageous decision to come forward and disclose the abuse she had endured. Throughout the victim's involvement with authorities, the collaborative efforts of law enforcement, partner agencies, and charitable organizations proved instrumental in supporting the victim throughout the legal process. This reflects an awareness that it is often very difficult for victims to come forward, something which is crucial if we want rapists to face accountability for their crimes.
While Singh initially attempted to deflect blame by claiming consensual encounters, the victim's steadfast testimony, captured in a video-recorded interview, played a pivotal role in securing justice.
Recognizing her bravery in speaking out against her perpetrator, authorities extend their gratitude to the victim for her courage in shedding light on these egregious crimes.
This unambiguous verdict sends a stark message that perpetrators of sexual violence will be held accountable for their actions. As communities unite in solidarity with survivors, efforts to combat sexual abuse and empower victims continue to gain momentum.
