Christian Kuta-Dankwa, 19, of Rayners Lane, Harrow was convicted of the murder of Mohamoud Mohamed Mahdi.

On Thursday 12th November, a trial at the Old Bailey found he was found guilty of stabbing Mohamoud, 28, with a knife that the victim had brought to the scene.

Christian Kuta-Dankwa, 19, handed himself in the day after the stabbing, but claimed to have acted in self-defence.

At around 4pm on Friday 18th February, Kuta-Dankwa and his friends arrived at Watling Avenue, Edgware.

CCTV shows that shortly after, Mohamoud arrived and briefly spoke to the defendant, asking him why he was ‘on his strip’.

Mohamoud left afterwards, before returning with a knife. An altercation with the defendant saw Mohamoud disarmed.

Kuta-Dankwa took hold of the weapon and chased the victim, before tackling him to the ground and stabbing him in the back three times.

The 19-year-old admitted in court that his friend had been dealing cannabis prior to the dispute and that this was likely the cause of the dispute.

First aid was administered by emergency services, but despite their efforts Mohamoud died at the scene.

The knife was found at the bed of a stream inside Watling Park, while the sheath was found at the scene of the stabbing.

One day after the murder took place, Kuta-Dankwa handed himself in, but claimed he acted in self-defence. He will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday 2nd December.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who led the investigation, said: “Kuta-Dankwa claimed he was acting in self-defence but CCTV clearly showed that Mohamoud was leaving the scene before being chased and fatally stabbed.

“This tragic incident highlights the dangers of carrying knives. We know that those who carry these weapons are more likely to be victims to such violent attacks and that is why tackling violent crime of this kind continues to be the Met’s top priority.”
