Hi and welcome to this Video Production News Sentencing Report.

Three men have been jailed following their conviction for the Gang Rape of a 13-Year-Old Schoolgirl, whom they lured from Hammersmith Tube station to a flat in West London. The sentences were handed down at Southwark Crown Court, following an in-depth investigation by specialist detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offences unit.

Defendants and Sentences

Paul Maxwell, 24, (03.12.1999) of Wood Lane Estates, W12, was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison.

Kayon Bhola, 29, (28.10.1994) of no fixed address, received 11 years.

Jeremiah Jackson, 24, (08.11.1999) of Longford Court, W12, was also sentenced to 11 years.

All three men have additionally been subjected to 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, intended to restrict their behavior and movements upon their release. These orders are a protective measure to minimize any risk they might pose to the public, particularly to women and girls.

Circumstances of the Crime

On September 30, 2023, the victim, a 13-Year-Old, left her home and traveled into London. She encountered Maxwell, Bhola, and Jackson at Hammersmith Tube station, where they engaged her in conversation and convinced her to accompany them back to Maxwell’s flat. Once inside, the trio plied the victim with alcohol, rendering her increasingly vulnerable.

In a calculated and premeditated attack, they proceeded to Gang Rape her, taking turns while filming parts of their vile actions. The video footage, later recovered by police during their investigation, played a pivotal role in securing convictions.

The Investigation

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s specialist unit led a thorough investigation. Detective Constable Will Murphy, who headed the case, described it as "challenging," but praised the professionalism and commitment of his team. He noted that a combination of forensic evidence, CCTV analysis, and detailed phone records were crucial in building the case against the three defendants.

CCTV footage captured the group and the young girl leaving Hammersmith station and walking towards Maxwell’s flat. Forensic analysis of their phones further revealed a disturbing short video clip, confirming the Gang Rape actually took place and the involvement of each of the three men. This digital evidence was instrumental in securing their convictions.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

On July 22, 2024, following a three-week trial at Southwark Crown Court, all three men were found guilty of rape. Maxwell faced an additional charge of sexual assault, for which he was also convicted. The severity of the sentences reflects both the gravity of the crime and the distress inflicted on the victim.

During the sentencing on October 11, 2024, the judge addressed the defendants, condemning their "premeditated and callous attack" and underscoring the brutality of their actions. The judge emphasized that the assault was aggravated by the fact that the underage victim was deliberately intoxicated by the perpetrators to reduce her ability to defend herself.

The Victim's Statement and Her Bravery

In a powerful moment during the trial, the victim read her impact statement aloud. She said:

"I have gone over the date a million times thinking of what I could have done differently to change the outcome of what happened to me. No matter what I change, it would've ended the same way. This is because these three men, fully grown men, knew exactly what they were going to do as soon as they saw me at Hammersmith. I was caught alone, and vulnerable. But that shouldn't have mattered."

Detective Constable Will Murphy commended her bravery and cooperation throughout the investigation. "This has been a challenging investigation," he stated. "However, due to the dedicated efforts of my team, we were able to secure convictions. I hope the victim feels that justice has been served."

He continued: “The Met is here to support victims of sexual assault, and to provide the best care we can. Please do not hesitate to come to us.”

Access to the Law: Understanding the Crime and Sentencing.

As part of our campaign to improve citizens’ access and understanding of UK Criminal law, we will be explaining the relevant UK legislation surrounding any case law relevant to our articles:

Under UK law, RAPE is defined under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 as the intentional penetration of a person’s vagina, anus, or mouth with a penis without consent, where the perpetrator does not reasonably believe the victim consents. In cases involving victims under the age of consent—defined as 16 years old in the UK—any sexual activity is automatically considered non-consensual. In this instance, the victim was just 13-Years-Old, making the crime even more severe and classified as Rape of a child under 13, an offence that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The law recognizes that children under 16 are incapable of providing legal consent, regardless of any circumstances. The court considered the significant aggravating factors in this case, including the use of alcohol to incapacitate the victim and the recording of the assault. These elements demonstrated not only a premeditated intent but also a complete disregard for the victim’s age and vulnerability.

In addition to their prison sentences, the Sexual Harm Prevention Orders imposed on Maxwell, Bhola, and Jackson for 15 years are designed to further protect the public and specifically safeguard children from their predatory behavior upon release. The conditions will restrict their actions, movements, and access to the internet, ensuring robust monitoring by authorities to reduce any risk of reoffending.

This sentencing reflects the seriousness of their crime and highlights the importance of protecting young and vulnerable victims in our society.

Conclusion

The sentencing of these three men sends a clear message that such abhorrent crimes will not go unpunished. The dedicated work of the Metropolitan Police and the courage of the victim have ensured that justice has been served.

Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
