Hi and welcome to this video production Court Report:

Man Convicted of Murder of Johanita Dogbey in Brixton

Mohammed Nur, 34, has been convicted of the murder of 31-year-old Johanita Dogbey in Brixton, following a series of random, violent attacks. The verdict was reached after Nur admitted to Dogbey's murder, possession of an offensive weapon, and possession of a pointed/bladed article.

Additionally, he was found guilty of three counts of unlawful wounding related to assaults carried out in the Brixton area on April 29, 2023, two days before he fatally attacked Dogbey.

Nur's violent spree began on April 29, when he slashed the faces of three individuals in separate incidents within five minutes in Brixton. The first victim, Rebecca Wilkes, was approached from behind, grabbed, and slashed on her right cheek, causing a 9cm cut.

The second victim, Tomasz Kmiecik, suffered a 15cm facial cut, and the third victim, Katie Matthews, sustained a 6cm wound to her face. These attacks were carried out with a makeshift weapon, leaving the victims injured and the community in fear.

Two days later, on May 1, Nur brutally attacked and killed Johanita Dogbey in Stockwell Park Walk, using a similar homemade weapon. Ms. Dogbey, 31, had been walking alone after going into central London to do some shopping.

She was attacked from behind by Nur, who approached her and slashed her throat with the makeshift blade. A post-mortem examination identified the cause of death as sharp force trauma to the neck.

The random nature and brutality of these attacks left the community understandably terrified. The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation into Nur after the series of attacks. Nur was arrested on May 2 following a stop and search in Brixton Hill, during which he was found in possession of a weapon made from broken glass. Forensic evidence, including DNA and CCTV footage, linked Nur to the attacks.

The swift and thorough investigation led by the Metropolitan Police was crucial in capturing Nur. Officers deployed extra units to the local area after Johanita's murder and the other attacks, providing reassurance to the community and supporting the investigation.

As a result of a stop and search carried out by one of these units in the early hours of May 2 in the same area of Brixton where the attacks occurred, Nur was arrested. He was found carrying a crude makeshift weapon, similar to the type used in the previous attacks.

During his trial at the Old Bailey, Nur denied involvement in the three attacks on April 29 but admitted to Dogbey's murder and possessing bladed articles on that day. However, the evidence presented against him, including eyewitness testimonies, forensic analysis, and CCTV footage, led to his conviction.

Nur has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the Old Bailey for all offences on Thursday, May 23.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Webb, the senior investigating officer, emphasized the random and terrifying circumstances of Nur's offenses. He expressed hope that the conviction brings some comfort to Dogbey's family and the other victims of Nur's attacks. Nur awaits sentencing, facing a lengthy period of imprisonment.

In conclusion, Nur's conviction for the murder of Johanita Dogbey highlights the importance of swift and thorough police investigations in ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes.

Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
