Hi and welcome to this JK B'HAM Crime Report for VPN: REGIONAL NETWORKS:

Two men have now been jailed in connection with a firearms incident from November last year.

The weapon had been brandished by 42-year-old Martin Macdonald, who was subsequently jailed for five years and one month for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

And now the latest development has seen 56-year-old Mohammed Ajaz sent away for six years and one month for possession of a firearm and ammunition.

This case takes us to the world of West Midlands Police firearms officers, dealing with some of the regions most dangerous criminals.

On 1 November last year, they were called to respond to reports of a man seen brandishing a gun on Lyttelton Road, Stechford.

On sighting a possible suspect, the man was approached, the laser sight of the officer's weapon on the suspect.

On this occasion, the suspect realised that the best option is to not resist and arrest is made, under protests that the suspect has no idea what he might be in trouble for.

But this is still an ongoing situation: the reported weapon is nowhere to be seen and the suspect is giving nothing away.

A search takes place, with the skills of highly trained PD Meghan coming to the fore. The weapon, a 9mm blank-firing pistol which had been converted to fire live ammunition, contained two rounds of live ammunition.

This pistol, located with the aid of this vital police dog, was about to reveal another chapter to the story, with the aid of forensics teams.

The firearm was processed by forensic experts, who uncovered a crucial link: the DNA of 56-year-old Mohammed Ajaz, a resident of Lyttelton Road. This discovery led to Ajaz’s arrest, where he was found carrying eight additional viable rounds of ammunition in a manbag.

With overwhelming evidence gathered, both men pleaded guilty,  and both men will face significant time behind bars.

Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
