Westminster Academy Acid Attack: Teenage Students and Staff Injured as Police Launch Manhunt
London, October 1 — A major police manhunt is underway after a suspected Acid Attack at Westminster Academy left two students and a staff member injured. The shocking incident occurred on Monday afternoon when an "acidic substance" was thrown at a 14-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy, and a 27-year-old staff member at the central London school.
The teenage girl is reported to have suffered potentially life-changing injuries and remains in hospital receiving treatment. The 16-year-old boy, who was also injured, is expected to recover as his injuries have been classified as non-life-threatening. The 27-year-old staff member, who was treated alongside the students, has since been discharged from the hospital.
Two police officers were also taken to hospital as a precaution after feeling unwell at the scene, though their conditions are not believed to be serious. Authorities have established multiple crime scenes around the area, as tests on the substance continue.
Scotland Yard confirmed that forensic tests are still being conducted to determine the exact nature of the substance, but early indications suggest it was acidic. The Metropolitan Police are treating the case as a priority, with detectives working urgently to identify and apprehend the attacker.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Met said: "Tests of the substance are ongoing. At this stage, officers believe it to be acidic. Urgent enquiries are underway to identify and arrest those responsible."
The incident unfolded around 4:42 p.m. on Alfred Road, Paddington, when school staff flagged down police officers who were on patrol in the vicinity. Emergency services, including paramedics and the London Fire Brigade, were swiftly dispatched to the scene, where they treated the victims before transferring them to hospital.
Westminster Academy, which serves students aged 11 to 18, has temporarily closed in the wake of the attack. In a statement posted on its website, the school announced: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Westminster Academy site will be closed on Tuesday, October 1. Students will resume lessons through online learning. Information will be shared with them via Google Classroom through their teachers."
A Year Six open morning scheduled for Tuesday has also been postponed, and a new date will be announced in due course.
