Hi and welcome to this Video Production News Court Report.

The trial of Mohamed lidow, 35, accused of raping and killing mother-of-three Natalie Shotter, has begun at the Old Bailey. Prosecutors allege that lidow, a homeless man, raped 37-year-old Natalie on a park bench in Southall Park, West London, after she had been on a night out. The court heard from prosecutor Alison Morgan KC, who stated: "It is alleged that he raped Natalie Shotter, and that the act of rape caused her death."

lidow, who was arrested shortly after Natalie's body was found unresponsive by police on July 17, 2021, now stands trial, charged with rape and manslaughter. The jury selection for the trial was completed today, marking the start of what is expected to be a closely watched case.

Natalie's tragic death has deeply affected her family. Her younger brother, Harry Shotter, has previously spoken about the devastating loss, describing Natalie as "a really lovely person." He explained, "Her kids adored her. It's going to be so difficult for them.

It was a very close family unit at home, and they always looked after each other." Harry, reflecting on the grief that has enveloped their family, added, "It's absolutely tragic for all of us. Our parents are really distraught; it's just so gut-wrenching and heart-breaking."

Natalie's mother, Dr. Cas Shotter-Weetman, has been vocal about her belief that Met Police officers could have prevented her daughter's death. She accused them of a "huge dereliction of duty," claiming that police officers who were approached by one of Natalie's friends on the night she died refused to intervene.

According to Dr. Shotter-Weetman, Natalie's friend had sought help after becoming concerned for her wellbeing, but the officers advised him to call the 101 non-emergency line instead. Not long after, Natalie was found dead in the park. Dr. Shotter-Weetman remarked, "If the police officers had gone to her aid, she would not have found herself in a position where she was assaulted and later died."

Natalie, who worked at Middlesex Hospital, had a background in the arts before becoming a mother. A former student of the prestigious BRIT School, she had performed in several West End productions in the 1990s. Her brother Harry said her artistic talent was a source of pride for the family.

lidow, who has no fixed address, was first arrested on August 4, 2021, a few weeks after Natalie's death. His charge with rape and manslaughter came later, on December 21, 2021. The case has been led by Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley from the Met Police's Specialist Crime Command.

As the trial begins, Natalie's family remains focused on seeking justice for her death, while the court prepares to examine the tragic details surrounding her final moments.

Well, that's all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I'll see you then.
