Hackney Murder: Multiple Suspects Charged in Shocking Fatal Stabbing of Jason Romeo

Jason Romeo, 20, was fatally stabbed in Hackney. Five men now face murder charges as the case unfolds.

On the evening of February 18, 2025, at approximately 5:59 PM, emergency services were dispatched to Bodney Road in Hackney, London, following reports of a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered 20-year-old Jason Junior Romeo, known locally as 'LD,' suffering from multiple stab wounds outside a residential property. Despite the prompt response of the London Ambulance Service, Mr. Romeo was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command immediately launched a comprehensive murder investigation. Initial inquiries led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old man on suspicion of murder and possession with intent to supply a Class B drug (cannabis). Both individuals were subsequently released with no further action taken regarding the murder charge.
As the investigation progressed, five individuals were charged in connection with Mr. Romeo's murder:
Raynolph Asante, born March 13, 2002 (22), of Pembury Road, Hackney. He was arrested and charged with murder, subsequently appearing at Thames Magistrates' Court on February 24, 2025.
Travis Mitchell, born July 23, 2002 (22), of Bodney Road, Hackney. He was also arrested and charged with murder, appearing alongside Mr. Asante at Thames Magistrates' Court on the same date.
Rhamyah Bailey-Edwards, born August 21, 2003 (21), of Williams Avenue, Walthamstow. He faced similar charges and appeared in court with Mr. Asante and Mr. Mitchell.
All three men were remanded in custody, with a subsequent appearance scheduled at the Old Bailey on November 3, 2025.
Renaldo Roberts, born February 20, 1999 (25), of Hobbs Place Estate, E1. He was arrested on February 25, 2025, charged with murder, and appeared in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on February 27, 2025. Mr. Roberts was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on November 3, 2025.
Joshua Ogedengbe, born August 2, 2005 (19), of Brownhill Road, SE6. He was arrested on February 26, 2025, by detectives investigating Mr. Romeo's murder. Mr. Ogedengbe was charged with murder and appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court on February 28, 2025.
The investigation into Mr. Romeo's death remains active, with detectives appealing to the public for any information that could assist in bringing those responsible to justice. The Metropolitan Police have urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could prove crucial in solving this case.
In response to the incident, officers in Hackney implemented additional stop-and-search powers under a Section 60 order to prevent further violence. Detective Superintendent Vicky Tunstall, leading the Central East Command Unit, acknowledged the community's concerns regarding the increased police presence and assured residents that the measures were in place to ensure their safety. She encouraged residents to engage with officers on patrol to discuss any issues or apprehensions.
Hackney has experienced a series of high-profile violent incidents in recent months, heightening community anxiety. The Metropolitan Police continue to work diligently to address these challenges, emphasizing their commitment to reducing knife crime and ensuring public safety.
