Hi and welcome to this Jason King B'ham Insight for VPN: REGIONAL NETWORK:

Two West Midlands men, deep in the deadly trade of drugs and guns, have been sentenced to nearly 40 years in prison. Max Williams from Wolverhampton and Daniel Morgan from Birmingham were caught using encrypted phone chats to hide their illegal dealings.

Williams, 36, and Morgan, 40, were exposed during an international sting led by West Midlands Police as part of Operation Target, which zeroes in on the region's most serious criminals. They used EncroChat, a messaging service they believed was secure from law enforcement scrutiny.

However, investigators cracked the code, revealing Williams as a major broker in firearms, ammunition, and Class A drugs. Using the handle "Skilledtwig," Williams openly discussed trading semi-automatic and fully automatic weapons. Morgan, known as "Noisy Jade," was deeply involved in the trade of cocaine, heroin, MDMA, and cannabis, along with hundreds of ecstasy pills.

In 2020, European law enforcement agencies cracked EncroChat and shared data with the Regional Organised Crime Unit for the West Midlands Region (ROCUWM). Investigators linked the men to their criminal empire through chats, mobile data, and phone images.

Among the evidence was a photo of a semi-automatic pistol, traded for around £15,000, and a kilo block of cocaine stamped with 'Paris.' Morgan was busted on December 10, 2020, at a Birmingham address, where cops seized over £5,000 worth of cocaine and heroin, along with £85,000 in cash. Williams was nabbed the next day at his Wolverhampton home, where several phones were confiscated.

Williams denied the charges but was found guilty after a four-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court last October. He was sentenced to 24 years on May 2. Morgan, who pleaded guilty earlier, was sentenced to 15 years.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Cooke from ROCUWM hailed the investigation for dismantling a dangerous supply chain. A Crown Prosecution Service spokesperson praised the teamwork that led to the successful prosecution, marking a major victory in the fight against drug and weapons trafficking.

Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
