Hi and welcome to this Jason King B'ham Insight for VPN: REGIONAL NETWORK:

As a community is reeling in shock following the latest outbreak of chilling youth-on-youth violence, we can report that two teenagers have been charged, after a 13-year-old boy was stabbed in Birmingham last Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to Cottsmeadow Drive, Washwood Heath, at around 4pm, after the victim was stabbed in the stomach and leg.

The boys, aged 13 and 14, are accused of wounding with intent, and possession of a knife and have appeared before the city’s youth court.

This comes against a backdrop of rising concern, as the recent Hainault stabbing has drawn attention to the shocking statistics on knife crime. London stands out as having sharply rising violence whereas these crimes are down in Birmingham. This contrast gives much credence to the idea that London Mayor Sadiq Khan's record of failure could be reversed by a new mayoral candidate bringing in new, evidence-base policies to raise London policing strategies up to the level of other national cities battling a youth knife crime culture, such as Birmingham.

These are among the issues which voters will be considering - both in Birmingham where the Police and Crime Commissioner role is separate from the Mayor role, and in London where both are under one helm - on the eve of Mayoral Elections. But right here, our focus will be on continuing to report on current crime in our region, and our thoughts are with all those affected by this latest tragedy and the victim, who is continuing to recover from his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
